10 Areas You Can Declutter Today…

Decluttering can be such a satisfying and refreshing experience!

Who doesn't love the feeling of letting go of things that are no longer serving you and freeing up some space in your home? Let’s bring some calm to your head, heart and home…

If you're ready to start decluttering, then stick with me. Here are ten simple and impactful areas you can tackle today:

Old Clothes

Say goodbye to those clothes that are taking up precious closet space! It's time to make room for new outfits that make you feel amazing. Only keep what fits now and what feels and looks fantastic! Make a list of any items you may need to replace, but don’t go overboard, remember this is about reducing.

Papers

Get rid of those old bills and receipts cluttering up your workspace. Clearing out paper clutter is like a breath of fresh air for your mind. Add new folders for new categories and take the old papers to your local Officeworks store for secure shredding.

Junk Drawers

We all have one (or three) of these, right? Embrace the satisfying feeling of organising all those random odds and ends into their rightful place. It’s ok if there are still some left, but keep it manageable and use old boxes to categorise items such as cards or sentimental photos.

Old Electronics

You might not need that old flip phone anymore, but someone else might. Why not donate it and feel good about helping a good cause? Alternatively, remove the batteries and offer old tech to your local preschool for children’s pretend play.

Beauty Products

Treat yourself to a little spa day at home while you go through your beauty products. Toss anything that's past its prime and make room for new favourites. Remember that these products have expiry dates just like food. Don’t risk putting anything mouldy on your face that could cause infections or break outs. Find that date and ditch it if it’s expired.

Kitchen Gadgets

Do you really need three different types of blenders? Get rid of the ones you don't use and make some space for the things you actually need. Consider how often you use an item and if you could borrow it from a friend or make do with an alternative that you also use for another task. Multitasking items are your friends!

Books

Letting go of books can be tough, but think about the joy someone else might get from reading them! Donate them to a local library or sell them online to give them a new home. Unless you’re an avid reader, you’re unlikely to pick up the same book twice. This one is tough, but I know you can be realistic.

Knick-Knacks & Wall Hangings

Have you ever noticed how much lighter your space feels when you get rid of some of those small decorative items and pieces off the walls? It's like a weight has been lifted! Remove 1-2 from each room and keep going until it feels too bare. Sit with it for a few days and then add back in your absolute favourites. This helps you achieve balance in a space.

Unused Furniture

That old chair might have sentimental value, but if it's just taking up space, it might be time to let it go.

Sell it online or donate it to a good cause and enjoy the extra room. You could drop it at your local charity store, or list it in a Buy Nothing group or on Facebook Marketplace for free.

Excess Food

Who knew cleaning out your pantry and fridge could be so satisfying? And so gross? Get rid of any expired or unused items and revel in the feeling of being organised. Anything in date and unopened can be taken to your local food pantry and donated to those in need.

Decluttering doesn't have to be a chore – it can be a fun and energising experience! Trust me…you’re going to feel so much lighter once this is done. Take it one step at a time and enjoy the feeling of freeing up some space in your home. You've got this!
